Canadian PVC decking and dock manufacturer Tiva Building Products Corp. will invest $8.3 million and hire 122 new employees to start a manufacturing operation in Blackville, S.C. The facility is expected to come online in August to expand production capabilities and accommodate future demand as the Tiva brand grows in North America.

Founded in 2016, the privately held, family-run, Mississauga, Ontario-based company produces Tivadek PVC boards, Tivadok cellular PVC boards and Tivacoat, a waterproof elastomeric membrane.

Earlier this year, Tiva officials announced they bought a 50,000-square-foot production plant that sits on 36 acres in South Carolina but wouldn't disclose the exact location.

The site in Blackville, a small town of 2,400 people, was announced in an April 21 news release from the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.

"We intend to use this facility as the launchpad for our expansion and can't wait to see what the future holds," Tiva CEO and founder Terry Fangrad said in the release.

The S.C. Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project and awarded a $250,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant to Barnwell County to assist with the costs of site preparation and building improvements. The plant needs power supply upgrades and "multiple" extrusion line installations.

Tiva has been in the plastic extrusion industry for more than 20 years, conducting research and development related to PVC decking for 15 years, according to the company's LinkedIn page.

The company's Tivadek PVC boards are capped with acrylonitrile styrene acrylate for heat resistance, color retention and weatherability, while the Tivadok cellular PVC boards have an ASA cap and a reinforced aluminum core.

The decking is finished and embossed on both sides, making the boards reversible.
