eMotion Tech Launches New Dual Extruder Strateo3D IDEX420 on Formnext: Technical Specifications and Pricing-3D Printing Industry

French FFF 3D printer manufacturer eMotion Tech announced the launch of a new machine at the Formnext trade show, which is said to be "twice the productivity of traditional professional printers."

The latest product of the company's "Strateo3D" product portfolio called "IDX420" includes independent dual extruders that can print at the same time, effectively making it twice as productive as its predecessors. Just like its existing 3D printers, eMotion Tech's new system is also easy to use, at a price of 6,990 euros, so it is very suitable to meet the needs of the high-end professional market.

FFF Decade of Innovation

For the past ten years, eMotion Tech has been selling low-cost FFF 3D printers. Since the launch of the first machine under 1,000 Euros in 2012, the company has been building a powerful entry-level "MicroDelta" system portfolio. Available in rework "kits" and "plug and play" iterations, the ultra-accessible printer has automatic bed leveling and intuitive components, and is said to be ready for use in just three hours.

After initially establishing business around these MicroDelta systems, the company bravely changed its strategy in 2017 and began to target more professional users. To achieve this goal, eMotion Tech established a new 800 square meter factory where it continued to develop its first dual extruder: Strateo3D DUAL 600. Equipped with a dual-material hot end and a build volume of 126 liters, the system continues to look for different applications.

In fact, the company’s machine customers now total more than 20,000, ranging from aerospace manufacturers such as Airbus and Safran to food-related companies such as Le Creuset and Daunat. Now, with IDX420, eMotion Tech is looking to change the situation again, compressing its double extrusion technology into a smaller package for small and medium-sized enterprises, which it says "has attracted the brand's distributors."

Productivity doubled

IDEX420 was exhibited at eMotion Tech's Formnext booth for the first time. Its main feature is its hot-end settings, which can be used to create the same, mirrored or completely different parts. According to the company, these dual printing capabilities provide it with the throughput improvements needed to meet "mass production requirements," while its movable 420 x 320 x 400 mm bed unlocks "uninterrupted production."

Due to its dual extruder and maximum temperature of 300°C, the company also stated that its machine can process "high shrinkage technical polymers" as well as soluble support materials, which may make it useful for mold production applications.

However, although IDEX420 is compatible with many standard polymers, including PLA, ABS and PETG, eMotion Tech has built it as an open material machine. Therefore, users can choose the 0.4-0.8mm filament that best suits their application, or the filament that provides the highest return on investment.

In other respects, in terms of accessibility, the company adhered to the user-friendly concept of the early machines using IDEX420, integrating its "StratoControl3D" real-time monitoring system into the easy-to-use touch screen of the device. The company also has a dual filtration system to eliminate particles emitted during the printing process, which means that entry-level users do not have to worry about any toxic effects.
